Framed or Unframed - What's Your Preference?

Years ago, I used a nice quality off-white wooden frame from Larson-Juhl on my paintings.  When I sold one of the paintings, the buyer requested it unframed, so I removed the custom frame.  Since then I have sold my paintings unframed and in recent years, painted only on gallery wrapped canvas.  I still love the look of a nice frame and was wondering what others think about framing.  How do you prefer to purchase artwork?   1. already framed 2. unframed, so you can have it framed yourself 3.  on gallery wrap canvas with the edges painted in a solid color 4. on gallery wrap canvas [...]

Cypress and Roses - A New Painting

Last spring, I spent one morning in the ABQ Biopark Botanic Garden.  What a treat that was!  I couldn't believe I had not been before.  One of my favorite areas was the Ceremonial Gardens, with the beautiful cypress trees and rose bushes.  I painted this for myself, so it is not available for sale at this time, but fine art prints can be purchased at:   The Untapped Source   and    Fine Art America     © 2013 Gayle Faucette Wisbon, Cypress and Roses, Original acrylic painting on canvas, 40 x 16 inches. Gallery Wrap Canvas Edges

I've been painting on gallery wrap canvases for a while now.  I like that you can paint the edges for a finished look, giving the buyer the option to frame or not.  I started out extending the painting all the way around onto the edges.  However, with some paintings, that can look distracting.   So in those cases, I just paint a solid black or dark brown color on the edges.     I would like to come up with a unique, consistent way to do this.  Or maybe I should just continue to do what suits the painting best.  Or maybe I [...]

Featured Print of the Day - Cactus Roses

Cactus Roses

I started painting cacti when I was a student at UNC. I started painting them because I was so excited about my anticipated move to the Southwest. Twenty-six years later, I am still in New Mexico and still love painting these, as well as other colorful flowers and plants. For some reason, the cactus has become somewhat symbolic for me. It's beautiful here, but it hasn't been easy and I have had to find ways to thrive, sort of like the cactus in the desert.   This is a reproduction of my acrylic painting and is available on Fine Art America as a: Fine art print [...]

Featured Print of the Day - Desert Beauty

Desert Beauty

When I moved from North Carolina to New Mexico in 1986, I had my house plants in the front of my VW and my dog, Babe, in the back seat. One of the plants was a prickly pear cactus, which we eventually planted outside, where it thrived in the New Mexico sun. It has been a model for several of my cactus sketches and paintings.   This is a reproduction of my acrylic painting and is available on Fine Art America as a: Fine art print on paper Framed print Canvas print Acrylic print Metal print Greeting card [...]

Featured Print of the Day - Along the Rio Grande

Along the Rio Grande

One of my favorite places is along the Rio Grande off Alameda in Albuquerque. I especially like it in the winter because these grasses that grow along the water's edge turn a nice rust color. The air coming off the water is very crisp and cold. However, it's also beautiful during October, when the cottonwoods are yellow and the balloons are out for Balloon Fiesta. People enjoy biking, horseback riding, picnicing, and taking pictures in this area any time of the year.   This is a reproduction of my acrylic painting and is available on Fine Art America as a: Fine art print on paper Framed print Canvas [...]

Artists, Which Ready-Made Canvas Do You Use?

My favorite canvas company, Signature Canvas, is going out of business.  I've used their canvases for a couple of years and really like them.  They are a bit expensive, but so well made and I really loved painting on them.    I've stretched my own canvases in the past, but I'm no longer interested in doing that - mainly because of lack of time and space.  So, I would love some feedback from other painters as to what brand of canvas you all use.     I'm interested in gallery-wrapped canvas because I like to paint the edges.  I do happen to like Artisan's Professional [...]
