"Adobe Portal"

This is the first painting of a small series I will be working on around La Iglesia de San Ysidro (the Old Church) in Corrales, New Mexico.  This portal is at the entrance of Casa San Ysidro, which is across the street from the church.  Casa San Ysidro is an old adobe house that is now part of the Albuquerque Museum.

This is an original acrylic painting on gallery wrap canvas.  The edges are painted solid dark brown to coordinate with the colors of the painting.  It can be custom framed or displayed as is.  It will be delivered varnished and ready to hang.  Shipping is included to the continental U.S.  For all other destinations, please email me at gayle@gaylefaucettewisbon.com for shipping rates.

New Limited Time Promotions

San Felipe de Neri

I currently have 3 new Limited Time Fine Art Print Promotions that just began today.  All of these artworks are part of a small series of paintings around the San Felipe de Neri church in Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico.  These are all available as fine art prints on stretched canvas, size 11" x 14" for $55 each.  This is a savings of more than $25 each.   Each image is printed on a premium glossy canvas and then stretched on a wooden frame of 1.5" x 1.5" stretcher bars.   These are shipped within one business day and are "ready to hang" with pre-attached hanging wire, mounting hooks, and nails.  

There are ten prints available of each image.  This expires on 3/21/11.

I started painting cacti when I was a student at UNC.  I started painting them because I was so excited about my anticipated move to the Southwest.  Twenty-four years later, I am still in New Mexico and still love painting these, as well as other colorful flowers and plants.  For some reason, the cactus has become somewhat symbolic for me.  It's beautiful here, but it hasn't been easy and I have had to find ways to thrive, sort of like the cactus in the desert.

Most of my acrylic paintings are painted on 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas.  I thought I would post this just to inform anyone who may not know what that is.  It is becoming a very popular way to display art because it eliminates the need to purchase custom framing.  I love nice picture frames as much as anyone, but I think whether to frame or not should be up to the collector.  However, I do think that the gallery wrap canvas does not always work for all types of paintings.  Some paintings do look much better in a traditional frame.

This is an acrylic painting of an agave plant.  I wanted to do something a bit different than my brightly colored paintings by capturing the muted grays in this plant.  There are all sorts of color combinations in this painting - yellows, reds, browns, greens, blues, purples, as well as black and white.  It is painted on Signature gallery wrap canvas.  The image is painted onto the edges, so it can be displayed with or without a frame.

Desert Beauty

When I moved from North Carolina to New Mexico in 1986, I had my house plants in the front of my VW and my dog, Babe, in the back seat. One of the plants was a prickly pear cactus, which we eventually planted outside, where it thrived in the New Mexico sun. It has been a model for several of my cactus sketches and paintings.

This is an acrylic painting on gallery wrap canvas with painted edges, so it does not need a frame. It is varnished and ready to hang.

Five volcanic cones lie along the West Mesa of Albuquerque. They are part of the Petroglyph National Monument. The area surrounding the volcanoes is a favorite place of mine, because it has such a sense of spirituality and solitude.

This is one of my favorite paintings of one of my favorite flowers. This is one of the last oils I ever painted. The tulips were sketched from those growing in our yard and I just had to place them against our beautiful blue sky.

San Felipe de Neri

San Felipe de Neri is a beautiful old church located in Old Town, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The original church was built in 1706 and was located across the street. It crumbled due to heavy rains in 1792. It was rebuilt in 1793 in it's current location and is the oldest church in Albuquerque.

"The Green Door" is the last of my little trio of paintings of Southwestern style doorways. I titled these in Spanish simply because the words are more beautiful. Pink autumn sage looks so pretty in full bloom and is one of my favorite shrubs.

Sometime last year, I was searching for high quality canvas for my paintings and I was very happy to find Signature Canvas.  They are based in Kansas City, KS and produce premium-quality archival canvas.  I was also happy to discover that as a Fine Art Studio Online member, that I receive a discount! 

I  am currently working on my third Signature canvas and I truly love it!  I use the 1.5" gallery wrap spline-fastened cotton canvas, but they also offer many other types of canvas to choose from.  I just received another order of canvases and was very pleased to see that they are now including a special label on the back of each canvas that includes the artist's name, artist statement and website.  I am so happy that I have chosen this as my "signature canvas"  and I am also thankful for my Fine Art Studio Online artist discount!

This church is in Corrales, New Mexico and is a favorite subject of mine. It was built around 1868, but is no longer used for services. It is one of many of the beautiful old adobe churches in this state.

"Hollyhocks" is part of a small series of paintings inspired by the San Felipe de Neri church. Hollyhocks thrive here in the New Mexico sunshine. I love the bright and varied colors against the earth tones of adobe walls.

Dogwood

One thing I miss about North Carolina are the dogwood trees that bloom in pink and white around Easter. It has been said that the dogwood tree was used to construct the cross Jesus died on. The bloom which is also symbolic, has four petals in the shape of a cross, with a notch in the edge of each petal, resembling a nail mark. The center of each flower symbolizes the crown of thorns worn on Christ's head.

Each year in October, the sky is filled with the beauty of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. In this painting, I combined my love of cactus with colorful hot air balloons against a backdrop of the Sandia Mountains.

Desert plant life has appealed to me as a subject matter for a long time.  The different varieties of cactus, agave and yucca have such interesting and unique shapes.  This one was found near Old Town in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A Wall with a View

"A Wall with a View" was painted in 2008.  I was sketching the Sandia Mountains and before I knew it, I had a wagonwheel wall and colorful shrubs.  It was late in the day and the sky really did have a layer-like appearance of pink, lavender and blue.
